Judy’s life began on September 23, 1954, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion, KS. She was the daughter of Cyril and Elizabeth (Redford) Reznicek. Judy was the second of three girls, Mary Jo and Susan were her sisters. Growing up in Marion included her Reznicek family roots and lots of family events. Her family moved to Ottawa, KS in 1963, where Judy attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1972. She was active in the Westerner’s 4-H Club growing up along with her sisters. Judy pursued nursing and social work, starting her education at Fort Scott Community College graduating in 1974 then earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at Kansas State University and her Masters Degree in Social Work from Kansas University. Judy maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates and their families. Judy met her future husband, Lou Wegerer when they were classmates at Marion Elementary School and they were married on January 21, 1978, by Msgr. Arthur Tonne and Fr. Gerald Pathe at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Lou railroaded with BNSF railroad for 37 years, retiring as a locomotive engineer. A major part of their family life was Kansas State Football, where Lou played varsity football under head coach Vince Gibson. They enjoyed alumni reunions and many get togethers. Lou and Judy held deep family values, their love of God and family. They had many good times at family events growing up and throughout her lifetime. There were her dad’s 11 brothers, sisters, spouses, and children to visit and play with. Judy’s loving family includes her husband Lou Wegerer of Marion; daughters Andrea (Drew) Salisbury of Marion and Allison (Jacob) Unruh of Goessel; grandchildren Jaxson, Ryker, Wyatt, Basil and Darby Salisbury and Jude, Ruby, Opal, and Onyx Unruh; her sister Mary Jo (Mark) Karleskint of Fort Scott; niece Christina Cooper of Marion, nephews Dan Karleskint of Kansas City and Jason Karleskint of Fort Scott; great nieces and nephews Dylan Cooper, Courtney De La Garza and Phoenix Karleskint. Judy passed away on Friday September 20, 2024, at Life Care Center in Wichita. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Susan and her husband Don Berg, her in laws Robert and Pauline Wegerer, brother in law C. Robert Wegerer and Raymond Wegerer. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday September 24, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. with a vigil and rosary at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Marion where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday September 25, 2024. She will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery. Yazel Megli Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Holy Family Parish.
