Judy K. Ockert, 78, of Galesburg, formerly of Traverse City and Cadillac, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Judy was born July 25, 1946 in Traverse City, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Courtad) Ockert. She attended St. Francis High School in Traverse City and later attended Northern Michigan College where she earned her degree as an LPN. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Traverse City State Hospital until it closed in the late 80s. After that she moved to the Cadillac area, where she worked as an accountant for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, retiring in 2010 after over 30 years of service to the State of Michigan. While at the DNR, she volunteered performing deer checks. Judy was a member of St. Francis Parish in Traverse City and St. Agnes Parish in Marion while living in the Cadillac area. In her younger years, she enjoyed hunting and fishing. Later she and her mother and daughters hunted morel mushrooms. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles, participating in the “Blessing of the Bikes” in Baldwin, sewing, crocheting, knitting, woodworking and volunteered for the VFW.
Judy is survived by two daughters, Tania (Mike) Loudermilk of Lake Wales, FL and Sonia Kadrovach of Kalamazoo; two grandsons, Adam Kadrovach and Luka Campeau; five sisters, Barbara Stallone, Jean (John) Breithaupt, Lois (Lyle) Livasy, Tammy (Randy) Yost, and Lynn (Sean) Heline; close friend, Dan Darnell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Margaret Ockert, who died in infancy.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3575 Veterans Drive, Traverse City, MI 49684. For those wishing to make a donation in Judy’s memory, the family suggests St. Agnes Catholic Parish, PO Box 778, Evart, MI 49631.
