Julia Ann Calhoun, born on January 24, 1945, in
Pitkin, Louisiana, to John Aponas and Edna Mae Potter, passed away on December 5, 2023, in
Dallas, Texas, due to complications during surgery. She was 78 years old. Her unexpected departure brings profound sadness to those who knew and loved her.
Julia's life was one of love, adventure, and dedication to her family. In the later years, she and her husband resided on Lake Fork. She had recently moved to be closer to her grandchildren in
Longview, Texas.
At the heart of Julia's world was her unwavering faith in God, her family, and friends. Touched by God's grace, she was both blessed and a blessing to many. Her life was a tapestry of rich experiences and deep relationships, and she never questioned what going home to God meant.
In her younger years, Julia enjoyed traveling with her devoted husband, Ronny, whether by motorcycle or motorhome throughout the United States, with a special fondness for Colorado. She passionately supported her grandsons and great-grandsons in their baseball and other sport activities. She cherished moments of music, bible study, volunteering at church youth programs, and leisurely lunches with friends. In addition to her numerous pursuits, Julia found immense joy in attending church outings to relish the old gospel she grew up on. Her spiritual journey was an integral part of her life, and the melodies of the old gospel resonated in her heart, bringing comfort and inspiration.
Julia is survived by her four children, Rodney Harrison, Tammy Broyles (husband, Paul), Latressa Dupuis (husband, Doug), and Belinda Walla, (husband, Edward); her cherished grandsons, Ricky and Bryson Broyles; and her great-grandsons, Corbin and Beaux Broyles. She also leaves behind her siblings, Gwen Johnson (husband, Jimmy), Clifton Aponas, Kathey Aponas, and Mary Kennedy; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Dale Calhoun; and her parents, Edna and John Aponas.
Julia's life was a testament to love, resilience, living life fully, and the joy of family. While she will be deeply missed, she will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew her. The family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to either Bright Star Baptist Church, PO Box 680, Alba, TX 75410 or Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, PO Box 209, Hineston, LA 71438.
