Obituary of Julia Margaret Mannain
Julia Margaret Mannain, a lifelong resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on May 29th, 2023.
She was born March 15th, 1938, to Francis and Viola Sullivan Lay. She was raised on Albany Street along with her sister Katherine Shaw and brother Robert Lay, also predeceased. On May 17th, 1957, she married Karl "Monk" Mannain who predeceased her in 1999. Julia is survived by her four sons, Mark Mannain, wife Debi and their daughter Karlee Jo. Brian Mannain, his wife Marsha and their daughter Julia. Karl "Skip" Mannain, his wife Taanya and their children Aidan, Karl and Carmen. Scott Mannain, his wife Rona and their children Amanda and Scotty. She also had four great grandchildren, Tucker, Braxton, Quinn and Sloan.
Julia's extended family includes nephews Glenn Gallagher, Bobby Lay, Tim Lay, Andre Mannain and Nieces, Kelly Koch, Kathy McKenna, Susan Mannain, and Andrea Masarjian. Also, her loving friend, Lisa Yager.
After attending Poughkeepsie High School, Julia went to work at the New York Phone Company. She then went on to work for IBM, Poughkeepsie Middle School, Spackenkill School District and Marist College. Julia loved working within the food service industry and took great pleasure in getting to know the students and faculty. She enjoyed reading mystery novels, dancing, traveling with Monk, and with her family, especially to the beach. She loved the ocean. She was also a caring pet owner having many cats and dogs throughout her life. Though Maggie, her Boston Terrier, was her beloved.
She led a very social and active life raising her sons. Monk and Judy were generous with their time and support of any that were in need.
Julia was affectionately known as "Nee" to her grandchildren and Judy to her friends. Judy was blessed with many great friends and family. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday June 2, 2023 from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary Church St. Peter's Parish 185 Hudson View Drive Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.
Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
A special thank you to her Goddaughter, Kelly Emmett and Monica VillaGomez who cared for her during her last year of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Hospice of Dutchess County in her name.

Hi Folks....
We all read of the passing.....today....of Mrs Mannain....yeaterday ! We are all heartbroken....Mrs M...was the light of the neighborhood ! will always remember Monk, Mrs Mannain and Uncle Bob...at the
Mt Carmel..annual ..St Anthony's Festival....Man could she and Monk Dance....I hope this helps..May God Keep you Julia and Monk....
