Obituary of Julianne Poth Semmes
Julianne Poth Semmes peacefully passed away surrounded by love at her home in Navarre Fl on Friday November 7 th, 2025 at the age of 93. Julianne was born on September 15 th, 1932 as the first child to Edmund Bernard Jr. and Mary Kathryn Florence Poth. She grew up on Poth Ranch in south Texas and assisted her Aunt Lillie B in the Poth, Texas general store. She graduated from Pleasonton High School and received her bachelor's in education in 1953 from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio Texas. A year later she married the love of her life, Oliver John Semmes III.
A sincere and devoted Catholic dedicated to her family, community and the church. She was a longtime member of the Pensacola Junior League and founding member St Sylvester Church in Navarre. Julianne poured her heart and soul into supporting the parish growth and the many programs established for faith formation and stewardship.
Mom's greatest treasure was her family. She is survived by her brothers Barry and Gregory Poth (Glenda); children John (Lynne), Edmund (Payge), Mary Kate (Bert), Paul (Katherine), Richard (Stephanie); 15 grandchildren, Robert, Anna, Julianne, Finley, Olivia, Orion, Matalin, Matthew R, Harrison, Catherine, Maia, Joshua, Barlow, Charlotte, Matthew S; great grandchild Marcella; special thoughts for Sherrie and Rob.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver J Semmes III; father, E. B. Poth Jr.; mother, Mary Kathryn Florence Poth; sister Beverly Poth; sisters-in-law Della Poth, Amante Carlquist; Emily Sherril; brother-in-law, Richard G. Semmes; grandson, Samuel; and nephew, Robert Bailey.
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for Julianne's caregivers, healthcare professionals, neighbors, firefighters at Holley Navarre Fire District Station 45, the Navarre community, Father John Kelly, Father Alvaro Gonzalez, Marc Barrett, her devoted rosary group and St. Sylvester's parishioners for all their love and support during her journey into God's arms.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, something kind be done for someone in need.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 6464 Gulf Breeze Pkwy, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563, with visitation from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. with service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
