Julie Ann Owen

August 13th, 2025, Rozelle Owen Smith welcomed her precious baby back into her arms. Julie Ann Owen was born June 26th, 1963. She came here with a divine purpose. She taught selfless love, patience, courage, grace, and gratitude for life.

Rozelle had five beautiful girls whom she devoted her life to. However, one special girl became the center of the family’s universe. Through Rozelle’s special love for Julie, we were all taught compassion and what it means to take care of family.

Julie never met a stranger. She loved meeting people, and once you became her friend you were a friend for life. With this, Julie’s friends blessed her back with some of the things she loved the most; one of her favorites being cards and dollar bills, Julie cherished every single dollar. Julie was born with the Owen competitiveness. This was evident if you ever went fishing, played bingo or cards with Julie. No one was ever allowed to catch a bigger fish than Julie.

Julie loved birthdays, and every day was her birthday, including yours. Julie’s other loves and hobbies included singing “Jesus Loves Me” and “You Are My Sunshine”. She loved The Golden Girls and Lucille Ball. She loved Dora, Barney, Duke Basketball, and Coca Colas. She could eat her weight in crab legs and KFC, and if pull tabs were a way of currency, Julie would’ve been a millionaire.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rozelle Owen Smith, father’s, Wayne Smith, Tommy Owen, and her nephew Adam Stamey.

Remaining to miss her are her sisters: Kathy Stamey (Steve), Jan Owen, Laura Owen (Kelly Willis), and Amy Owen-Pace (Brandon). She was a loving aunt to Andrew Stamey (Kristen, Jase, Finn, Grey), Anna Laura (Amish Patel, Hudson, Bhodi), Tyler Warren, Tucker Pace, Jordan Henry (Cole, Rhett, Riley) Jaxon Pace (Paige Griffin).

A memorial service for Julie will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Canton with Pastor Donny Henson officiating. A committal service will follow at Old Bon A Venture Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Special Olympics NC, Memorial Donations in Loving Memory of Julie Owen.

The family has entrusted the care of Julie Ann Owen to Wells Funeral of Canton.
