Devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother
Our beloved mother, Julie A. (Saccavino) Paulsen, age 81, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 26, 2024. She left us to be with our late father, Harry Paulsen, to whom she was married for 61 years.
Born on May 19, 1943, in New Haven, Julie was the daughter of the late Peter and Susan (Gargiulo) Saccavino and the big sister to Jean and Susan. She was a graduate of East Haven High School, where she became a cheerleader for one special football captain, Harry. She worked in the cardiology department at Waterbury Hospital as an EKG Technician for over 35 years where she developed many lifelong friendships with colleagues.
As a couple, Julie and Harry traveled the world in their later years, visiting amazing destinations such as Australia, China, Morocco, Italy and Alaska. However, the best vacations were the ones that the entire family shared, visiting the beaches of Connecticut and Rhode Island. She cherished family picnics and parties around the pool. She loved to watch the UCONN women's basketball team and together with Harry, attended many games and tournaments.
Nothing gave her more joy than being with her five daughters, her sons-in-law, and ten grandchildren. She spent the last week of her life with the people who genuinely cared for and loved her the most. She had the chance to spend time with lifelong friends, Fran and Dick Passler. She spent her last day on earth doing what she loved, being out in the fresh air, on a beautiful sunny day, watching her youngest granddaughter, Abigail, play softball.
She will be remembered for the endless kindness and compassion that she showed to all around her, from her family to coworkers to strangers. She taught her family that kindness is always of the utmost importance and instilled in them how to deal with the challenges life presents. She received much satisfaction in knowing that her family's bond was impenetrable, and that her children and grandchildren will always be there for each other for the remainder of their lives.
Julie will live on in the hearts and thoughts of her devoted children and grandchildren who will miss her.
Julie is survived by her five daughters Laura McEvoy and her husband Bill of Woodbury, Stephanie Pascale and her husband Jim of Bethlehem, Jennifer Eureka of Woodbury, Marcy Pogodzienski of Woodbury, and Carri-Ann Santoro and her husband Michael of Prospect; her grandchildren Reverend Kaeley McEvoy, Kyle McEvoy, Elijah Gonillo, Isabel Gonillo, James Pascale, Joseph Pascale, Matthew Eureka, Abigail Eureka, Jacob Pogodzienski, Olivia Pogodzienski, Domenic Santoro, and Vincenzo Santoro. She also leaves her sisters Jean Richo of Branford and Susan Marchese of Wallingford as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry, who was waiting for her with open arms as she entered the pearly gates of heaven. He patiently waited for sixteen months to be reunited with the "love of his life".
All services were private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Julie's name may be made to: Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries, 770 E. Main St.,
