June (Junebug) Matthews, 78, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025 with her family by her side. She went to the arms of Jesus.
June was born on January 13, 1947 and was raised on Springdale Valley Farm in Burlington, Connecticut by her late parents Robert and Genevieve (Wells) Matthews. She had 16 brothers and sisters. She has 1 living sister, Joan Dufresne and husband Dennis Dufresne. 7 living brothers, John and his wife, Ellie, Charles and his wife Ann, Paul and his wife Janice, Michael, William, Norman and his wife Cindy and Don and his wife AnnMarie. She was predeceased by Genevieve Blaschke, Susan Shamper, Cindy Dougherty, Laura Pratt, Mary Lee, Arthur, Edward and Robert Jr.
She wanted them to all know she loved them all and we reminisced of the good ole days on the farm and how each of them meant so much to her and they had their special times together at different seasons of life with each and every one of them. All her sister in laws and brother in laws included. And lets not forget all of their children that were growing up alongside her two children and all the love they gave her.
She leaves behind her daughter, and best friend, Diana Lessard Lauben. Who supported her, lifted her up and told her who she was… beautiful and "fearfully and wonderfully made" Psalm 139:14. She unraveled like a beautiful rose and she spilled onto all those who spent time with her. Also, her son in law, Steven Lauben who adored Mom. He will miss all her texts and little pics she would send him daily. Her Grandson Jacob, Grandson Adam and Grand daughter, Hope Renae.
She also leaves her son, Robert A. Lessard, When she had her little boy she felt complete, wife Kristen and Grandson Cody who she cared for a lot when he was young, and Granddaughter, Kylie.
In the last years of her life, she had a very special friend and companion, Bruce Colgate. They spent nearly every day together, took rides, cooked meals, texted, laughed and cried together. Mom brought him into our family. They adored one another and it was sweet to see.
June worked in retail most of her life and gathered many friends along the way. She had a close friend in her younger days, Bonnie O'Dell that she treasured and a close friend Savannah Morris that she went fishing with and had a lot of laughs with.
She was one of a kind, talented and very compassionate. She loved to knit and crochet scarves and blankets and she would give them away as fast as she made them. She didn't talk about being sick but loved to listen to what was on your heart. She made people feel special. She was a light in a dark place. She gave people time, a most treasured gift, really, the best gift of all.
She is so missed already.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
