Kappa Sharp, loving mother of three, was called to heaven on November 1, 2022. Kappa was born on September 19, 1933 in West, Mississippi to parents Mister and Nannie Pearson. As one of the youngest of 10 children, including her identical twin, Kappa came from a large and loving family. She graduated from Durant Holmes Training School and moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1955. On June 30, 1956 Kappa married Jessie T. Sharp. Along with raising and taking care of her three children with Jessie, Kappa was employed at Swedish American Hospital for many years. After retiring from there Kappa's love for her community brought her out of retirement and she began working at her local Gray's IGA. She volunteered in the soup kitchen at St. Elizabeth's Community Center and was also a dedicated volunteer for the Rockford Juneteenth Celebration. Kappa has always been a devoted member of her church and served as an usher, on the Mothers Board, and in the Golden Agers Choirs at her former church, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church and her current one Providence Baptist Church. Kappa will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Evelyn (Tommy) Meeks, son Michael (Sabrina) Sharp, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, son Jesse Thomas Sharp, Jr., six sisters, three brothers, one grandson Carlos Meeks, and one granddaughter Capri Meeks. A special thanks to her great grandson Bryce Meeks, and to Dr. Dale Grey and his medical staff for their excellent care.
Services will be held at Providence Baptist Church. Visitation starts at 10:00 AM until the time of service which will commence at 12:00 PM. The burial ceremony will be at Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc.
