Karen Yvonne Baker, 83, of Amarillo, passed surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 30, 2024.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, Texas 79110. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at Schooler Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Llano Cemetery. 

 Born on November 1, 1940 to Elsie Wilma (Pigg) Brehm and Edward George Brehm. Karen spent her early years on small farming communities in NM, OK, and KS and graduated in Claremore, OK, before moving to Texas, where she pursued her education at Amarillo College.

Karen's career in the oil and gas industry began in Midland, TX, and later took her to Denver, CO, where she worked with Texaco. In 1989, she opted for early retirement, which allowed her to return to Amarillo, TX. There, she embarked on a second career with the Amarillo Police Department, retiring in 2006. Throughout her professional journey, Karen was known for her dedication and work ethic.

A devout member of the Amarillo Church of Christ, Karen's faith played a significant role in her life. She cherished the community she found there.

Karen had a vibrant personality, marked by her love for country western dancing and her admiration for George Strait. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending precious moments with her loved ones, especially the youngest members of her family and friends. Her joy in the company of babies and youngsters was evident to all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Dawn Mejias and husband, Rico, of Spokane, WA; son, Edward Lee Baker and wife, Susan, of Coppell, TX; brother, Randall Brehm and wife, Carol, of Amarillo, TX; and sister, Rosemary Perkins of Lubbock, TX; and 4 grandchildren Joseph Edward Mejias, Dawn Elise Mejias, Jessica Reid Denniston, Reid Edward Baker; honorary grandchildren William Ethan Fetterman and Mikalah Alara Fetterman. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Wilma (Pigg) Brehm and Edward George Brehm, and her brother, Gailon Edward Brehm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Amarillo Church of Christ, honoring Karen's commitment to her faith and community. Karen's life was a testament to her loving nature and her unwavering spirit, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
