Karen "KC" Lou Hromadka, 66, of Waterloo, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, Wisconsin.
Karen was born in Hutchinson, Minnesota, on October 1, 1958, the daughter of Harold and Adeline (née Sitz) Clarke. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Hromadka, with whom she shared 33 wonderful years of marriage after exchanging vows on April 24, 1991, at the iconic Chapel of Love in Las Vegas. A devoted and loving mother, she cherished her three children: Jason (Megan) Moungey, Jackie (Jason Schienbein) Hromadka, and Jessie Hromadka. Her immense love and pride also extended to her four adored grandchildren: Aurora Moungey, Elora Hromadka, Magnolia Schienbein, and Hyde Schienbein. Karen is survived by her sisters, Kris Clarke and Kathy Clarke, along with her lifelong best friends, Phyllis Filter and Kathi Jo Strohbusch. She also leaves behind her first husband, John Moungey.
Karen's passing reunites her with her parents, Harold and Adeline Clarke, and her stepfather, Charlie Kowski, whose love and guidance shaped her journey.
A proud graduate of Waterloo High School's Class of 1976, Karen continued her education at Madison Area Technical College (MATC), where she honed her skills and prepared for a fulfilling career. She began her professional journey at Perry Printing in Waterloo, and she later found great fulfillment working as a freelance graphic and web designer for her son's business.
Karen found immense joy in reading, playing games, going on camping trips, and sharing stories around a glowing bonfire with family and friends. Treasuring every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, she found deep happiness in their presence. She had an unmatched love for Halloween, a holiday that reflected her vibrant spirit. No sooner had one Halloween passed than she would begin meticulously planning for the next year's celebration. Her creativity also came alive in her graphic designs and artwork, lovingly crafted as heartfelt expressions for any occasion.
Karen's generosity extended beyond her lifetime as a tissue and bone donor, leaving a legacy of compassion and care for others.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all the first responders for their dedicated efforts.
A celebration of life will be held in Waterloo on January 25th. Please contact the family for more details. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed to the family in honor of Karen's memory. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.
