Karen Slocum, 86, formerly of Rockton, IL. went home to the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. She was born on December, 16, 1936 in Rockford, IL the daughter of William and Evelyn (Lolling) Cannell she graduated from Hononegah High School where she was a cheerleader.
Karen was an amazing mother who willingly sacrificed many things in life to provide for her children and when asked later in life was it hard for her, she simply replied "her children were her greatest blessing". Karen was a fiercely loyal friend to many. She was a highly skilled quilter and a member of The Rebels Quilt Club. Karen also had a great sense of humor and loved to flash her mischievous grin when she would tell a joke. She always looked forward to meals out with family and friends.
Karen had another passion equal to her love of life, her family and her faith in the Lord and that was the music of Wille Nelson.
Karen is survived by her children, son Neal Slocum of Asheville, NC., son Mark Slocum of Granbury, TX., daughter Kelly Rosengren of Bloomington, IL., son Michael Slocum of Granbury, TX., son Patrick Slocum of Weatherford, TX., siblings Jill Herramann of Rockton, IL. and Tomas Machen of Beloit, WI. along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her infant Son Timothy Slocum, her parents, William and Evelyn Cannel and brothers Eugene Cannell, Roger Cannell, Paul Cannell, Patrick Cannell, and Michael Cannell and grandsons Troy Slocum and Jared Slocum.
Karen will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Vigil service will be held On Friday January 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McCorkle Funeral Home 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, IL 61072. (A rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday.)
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Bala Kasipogu at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 822 E. Grand Ave, Beloit, WI 53511 on Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 a.m. with the Rite of Committal and burial to follow at (Old) Rockton Township Cemetery.
