Kathryn E. Monsell

Kathryn E. Monsell, 102, of Bellefonte, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Centre Care. Born on November 10, 1921, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Donald and Ruth Gertrude (Spotts) Rote. On June 30, 1939, she married the love of her life, George H. Monsell, who preceded her in death on January 21, 2009, after sharing almost 70 years of marriage together.
Kathryn attended Bellefonte High School. She dedicated her life to raising her family and taking care of her home – a job that she was thankful and proud to do!
She is survived by her children, Barry Monsell and Vernon Monsell (Winifred), both of Bellefonte; three grandchildren, Monica Musser (Mike), Charles Haldeman (Courtney), and Matthew Monsell (Amber), and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Donald Rote, and a sister, Grayce Amick, both of State College.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Timothy C. Monsell, on January 15, 2021, and three sisters, Edna Mae Witmer, Phyllis Martin, and Beverly Chandler.
Kathryn was a life member of the First Baptist Church in Bellefonte. She enjoyed camping and crocheting, looking forward to giving away afghans that she had made. She was an exceptional cook and baker. Her loved ones always savored every bite of her famous pies and other dishes that she would make.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Greg Shipe officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
