Kathy Sly Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2023.
Kathy Ann Sly, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister unexpectedly passed away on January 25th, 2023, at the age of 72.
Kathy was born on February 15, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Helen and Floyd Thompson. She attended East High School and for the last 17 years worked at GXO Logistics Inc.
Kathy's greatest feat was raising her three sons Anthony Thompson, Sr., Robert Sly, Jr., and Matthew Sly. She was a doting grandmother to her 11 grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sports games and other extracurricular activities.
She was selfless and her heart was so pure. Kathy was an active donor to St. Jude and Inspiration Ministries. She had a strong faith and loved the Lord. Kathy went out of her way to make life beautiful for others.
She enjoyed gardening, going to parades, watching fireworks, listening to Rascal Flatts, playing with her grandchildren and drinking her iced tea. Kathy's constant companion was Rascal the cat. She laughed at his antics and cherished his company. It was the sweet and simple things in life that filled her cup.
Kathy was preceded in death by her partner Don Madison; brother Billy Schatz; parents Helen and Floyd Thompson; and daughter-in-law Deanna Gaines-Allen.
Kathy is survived by her sons Anthony Thompson, Sr., [Paige Dare], Robert Sly, Jr., [Lyndsey Roe] and Matthew (Molly) Sly; her 11 grandchildren Anthony (Holly) Thompson, Jr., Tyler (Mariah) Thompson, Trey Thompson, Kenley Hermsen, Trenton Tharp, Layla, Alivia, and Maisie Sly, Lilliana Wood, Violet and Mabyl Sly; her great-grandson Aiden Thompson; and her siblings Ronnie Gilliam, Bob (Pam) Thompson, Steve (Sheryl) Thompson, Richard (Julie) Thompson, June Thompson [Joe Frimml], Ruth (Bobby) Kelly, and Paula (Dennis) Miles.
