Kay Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Auble-Gillman Funeral Home - Rittman on Mar. 3, 2026.
Kay Smith, age 80, formerly of Rittman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Orrville Pointe JAG Healthcare, following a period of declining health.

Born March 7, 1945, in Beallsville, Kay was the daughter of the late Wayne and Wilma (Ullman) Truax. She was a proud graduate of Rittman High School. On March 16, 1966, she married the love of her life, Elisha "Junior" Smith, in Wadsworth. Together they built a life grounded in faith, resilience, and devotion until Junior's passing on April 16, 2017.

Kay dedicated her life to caring for her home and family as a homemaker. She also spent many years working in manufacturing, where she was known for her strong work ethic and steady determination. No matter the role she filled, Kay approached it with quiet strength and perseverance.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures - especially thrift store shopping, visiting with friends, and opening her home to others. Kay cherished her friendships and loved unconditionally, offering warmth, laughter, and encouragement to those around her. Though she faced adversity throughout her life, her faith never wavered. She trusted in God's plan and met each challenge with grace and steadfast hope.

Kay is lovingly remembered by her two nephews, Bradley Truax and Brett (Toni) Truax; her step-son, Dennis (Nancy) Smith; her dear friend, Haley Myers; and her great-niece, Kayla (Cody) Stillion.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Larry J. and Linda Lou Truax.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Rittman Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Kay's life was a testament to perseverance, faith, and enduring love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
