Ronald D. Steele

Ronald D. Steele, age 90, of Rittman, died Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Summa Barberton Hospital, following a period of declining health.

Ron was born on February 13, 1936, in Smithville, Ohio, to the late Ira and Mae (Killough) Steele and graduated from Rittman High School with the class of 1954. He married the love of his life, Janet R. Gwaltney on March 31, 1957, in Rittman, Ohio and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2020.

He was employed by the Former Packaging Corp. of America in Rittman and then later retired from PPG in Barberton in 1982.

Ron was a member of the Milton United Presbyterian Church in Rittman and enjoyed working in his yard and was extremely particular in the care he took of his property. He liked listening to Country music and watching old Western movies, classic cars, especially Pontiacs, watching basketball and taking long walks with Janet.

Surviving are sons, Jeffrey Steele and Scott (Becki) Steele; daughters, Lisa (Henry) Braumbaugh and Mindy (Paul) Struhsaker; grandchildren, Shawn (Kathleen) Steele, Jason Steele, Jamie (Taylor) Robinson, Abigail Struhsaker, Jake (Meghan) Braumbaugh and honorary granddaughter, Taylor (Lohit) Sharma; great grandchildren, Jack, Austin, Paige, and Gwen Steele; sister-in-law, Shirley Walch; and brother-in-law, Thomas Gwaltney.

Ron was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet R. Steele; father, Ira Steele; mother, Mae Steele; sister, Ruth M. Schumacher; and brother, Richard L. Steele.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, with Pastor Alex K. Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Rittman Cemetery.
