Kayla Louis (Ellis) Kuhlman passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 30, 2021.

She was born to Marguerite (Peggy) and Roger Ellis on August 25, 1950.

She grew up in Blue Earth and graduated high school in 1968. She went on to graduate from the Johnson Academy of Beauty Culture in Mankato, MN. After graduating, Kayla worked as a beautician for Powers and Dayton's Salons.

Kayla met her future husband, Gerald Kuhlman, at a dance hall in Fairmont during her senior year of high school, and they married July 10, 1971.Together they lived in New York for a short time after they were married, then returned to Minnesota where they had two sons, Steven and Sean.

Kayla transitioned from hair styling to become the Secretary of Mt. Hope Redemption Lutheran school, which her sons attended, while still doing hair for family and friends.

She was a very active member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church as a member of the choir and Praise team. She played handbells in the choir, and was honored to be able to travel to Italy to play for several churches.

Kayla was very talented craftswoman. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting (many prayer shawls), making jewelry, and, her most recent love, making cards. Kayla made sure that she had a card made for every occasion and holiday. The cards for her grandchildren were always tailored to their unique interests. Even as she suffered with her own illness, she still managed to make face masks for those in need during the Covid-19 pandemic. If someone needed something, Kayla would figure out how to make it. She was always ready to help. She was a kind spirit and had an extraordinarily strong faith in Our Lord.

Kayla enjoyed going to the cabin she and Gerald built, taking vacations, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. They were the loves of her life right up to the end.

Left to cherish such wonderful memories are her husband Gerald Kuhlman, children Steven and Sean (Kimberly), grandchildren Seth, Grant, Khloe, Jake, Blake and Levi, her brothers and sisters John Ellis (Ruthanne) of Armstrong, IA, Kathleen Peterson (Tim) of Fairmont, MN, Colleen Boran (Jerry) of Forest City, IA, Susan Ellis (Ray Milligan) of Lake Vermilion/Soudan, MN, Robert Ellis (Michelle) of Wyoming, MN, and Christine Manno of Chanhassen, MN.

Kayla was preceded in death by her parents, Peggy and Roger Ellis, her in-laws Lillian and Merrill Kuhlman, and brother-in-law Michael Manno.

A memorial service will be held July 10, 2021 at Mount Hope Lutheran Church, 3601 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, MN 55431. Visitation will be at 1pm, service at 2pm and refreshments and desserts will be served following the service. A live stream will be available at the following link http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWrgOuhuRoCGP3oLBfXkzzQ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

My grandma was the best she always cheered me up when I was down, always gave me clothes, would make us these beautiful cards on our birthdays, she would help me under stand and help me with my parents divorce, she was the most special person on earth to me and I had the best time with her while it lasted, she will forever be in my heat and memories.
