Keghetzig Der Ohannesian

Keghetzig "Kathy" Der Ohannesian, 80, Emerson resident since 1969, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, friends, and caregivers. Born and raised in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, she came to the U.S. when she was 21. She met her husband, Antranik, at church and they were married in 1968.
Kathy began her career as a phlebotomist at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York and retired from Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. She was a parishioner of Sts. Vartanantz Church and proud of her involvement in the Armenian community. She volunteered her time to Hovnanian Armenian School. She was a member of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) – Agnouni Chapter.
She was an avid gardener and leaves the fruits of her labors to be enjoyed in both her Emerson home and in North Palm Beach, FL, where she enjoyed spending the winter months with Antranik.
Kathy's greatest pride and joy was her family. She will be remembered for her generosity, selflessness and unwavering love and loyalty. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Antranik, daughters Annie and Karine (Philip), four grandchildren – Alex, Andre, Nicole, and Philip – as well as her dear friends and relatives.
Visitation on Wednesday, June 19th from 5-9PM at Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell with a religious service at 8PM. Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 20th at 10:30AM at the funeral home. Entombment at 11:30AM in Westwood Cemetery, 23 Kinderkamack Road in Westwood.
