Keith Daniel Cermak, of Shelby Township, passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 77. Keith was born on August 4, 1947, to Theodore D. and O. Jean Cermak in Cleveland, Ohio. Keith married the love of his life, Maureen Alyce (nee Wendt) on August 14, 1971, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Washington, Michigan.
Keith enjoyed playing basketball in his youth and he recieved a partial athletic scholarship to college. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 and his Juris Doctorate in 1972 from Valparaiso. In 1986, he started his own law firm. He dedicated his time to many professional associations- he was a member of the State Bar of Michigan- and a member of the Negligence section and the Probate and Trust section; a member of the Macomb County Bar Association, and served in many roles, from a chair on the board of directors, up to being the president in 1990; a member of the Macomb County Bar Foundation, serving on their board of directors from 1994-2004; a member of the Macomb County Probate Bar Association, serving as a director since 2012 and their treasurer since 2016; a member of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Macomb, Inc.; and was a SCAO Authorized Mediator. Beyond the associations he worked closely with, he also volunteered his time. He served on ADR Advisory Committee as a case evaluator for the Macomb County Circuit Court; he helped with the Legal Assistance Referral Program for the Airman Readiness Process (ARP), Service to Soldiers at Selfridge; and he served as a member of the Macomb County Bar Association Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee. Lastly, Keith was a proud recipient of the 2021-2022 Kimberly M. Cahill Civility Award.
Keith is the cherished husband of Maureen; the loving father of Col. Dr. Danielle (Chad Hilton) Cermak, Shawna (John Paul) Ramsey, and Jessica (Lawrence Brooks Frederick) Cermak; the adored grandfather of Isabel, Carter, Ryker, and Rayna; and the beloved brother of Craig Cermak and Deborah Cermak.
Keith's family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Homme, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks East of Van Dyke), Utica. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 47500 Schoenherr Road, Shelby Township.
