Ken Wilson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mitchell Funeral Home, Inc. - Price on Mar. 1, 2026.
Ken Wilson

PRICE- We are heart broken to announce the passing of one of the kindest men around who had a heart of gold; Kenneth "Ken" Richard Wilson. He passed away surrounded by his family at St. Mark's Hospital on February 27, 2026.

Ken was born in Price, Utah on October 30, 1952, to Harold and Julia Cognien Wilson.

His early life was spent being raised on the family farm in Miller Creek. He was raised having a great work ethic that showed through his whole life in all aspects. Even though he had health challenges beginning as a young child, he never let that stop him. He never gave up on anything.

He graduated from Carbon High School; class of 1970. He attended Culinary classes in Provo.

After living in Salt Lake for a short time he moved back to Carbon County; his forever home. He lived with and helped his brother take care of his mother after their father's passing.

Ken was a cook at Parkdale Care Center and was also employed by Price City in the Maintenance Department and did construction work. He worked over 15 years with MTA/DBT/Bucyrus/Wheeler/Caterpillar alongside his brother. Ken was in charge of the tool department, making sure all departments were well stocked and very organized. He retired in 2017.

Ken enjoyed many camping and fishing trips over the years with family and friends. Enjoying time in the mountains was always a great pass time.

Ken had a green thumb just like his mother and father. Between him and his brother, Gene, they planted the best garden around. Every year our garden produced way too much for us to eat. So, that meant many friends, family, and neighbors were blessed with vegetables. In recent years, we have heard from several neighbors they would keep watch to see when the Wilson's started to plant. People knew they had the best intuition and perfect timing meaning they could start planting their gardens.

Ken never married, but his nieces and nephews adored him. Even his sister-in-law's family always affectionately called him Uncle Kenny. Even though we are going to miss him and we will have a void, we know he is free of pain.

He is survived by his brothers, Gene Wilson (Stella), Vernon Wilson (Sharon) all of Price, Utah and Jim Wilson (Maureen) of North Salt Lake City, Utah; along with his sister, Deon Hailey (Darrel) of Fort Collins, Colorado; along with two very special nieces that grew up always having Uncle Kenny living next door, Savannah Wilson and Natalee (John) Taylor. Also, nieces and nephews, Shane (Paula), Travis (Licia), Kendra, Lisa, Dustin (Karen) and Jessica; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Ken made life long memories with several dear sweet cousins. He is also survived by one very special uncle that always called to check in, Don Bennett; and also, a very special friend that was more like family to all of the Wilson's, Willie Ellington. The two of them enjoyed countless fishing trips over the years. Willie, we can never repay your kindness and helping Kenny over the years.

Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Julia Wilson; maternal grandparents, Silven and Mary Yordaney Cognien; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Constance Cartmel Wilson; aunts and uncles, Ilene Bennett, Juanita and Joe Pollock and Lena and Mike Bergera; and cousins, Jerald and Rita Pollock, Trona Denny, and Dan Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, Ken would have much rather a pet in need be blessed. Please feel free to make a donation or volunteer your time with Ken in your heart to a shelter/rescue. He always took great care of the stray cats that found their way to a full food dish at his home. Ken also loved when our extra garden veggies blessed the people that Marsha helped. Our family would like to express extreme gratitude to Mitchell Funeral Home. They have shown great compassion to our family; several generations over the years and it has been greatly appreciated.
