Kenneth E. Herbert, 85, of Canton, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Aultman Compassionate Care, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Canton, Ohio, on August 26, 1940, to the late John and Pauline (Habrun) Herbert, and remained a lifelong resident of the community.
A 1959 graduate of Canton South High School, Ken not only received his education there but also met the love of his life, Sally VanVoorhis, who would later honor him by becoming his wife. Ken was a devoted member of North Industry Christian Church, always willing to step in and help wherever he was needed. Professionally, Ken spent many years working as an excavator operator for several companies before establishing his own successful business, Kenneth Herbert Excavating and then retired from Viking Resources.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Allen Herbert and Daryl Herbert; sister, Jeanette Herbert and brothers Richard and Ron Herbert.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Sally A. Herbert, whom he celebrated 65 years of marriage; sister, Linda (Gary) Weaver; daughter, Cheryl (Rick) Perkins; son, Troy (Trina) Herbert; daughter-in-law, Ann Herbert; grandchildren, Michael Herbert, Joshua (Megan) Herbert, Holly (Ron) May, Scott (Rachel) Herbert, Andrew (Cassie) Perkins, Chelsea (Matt) Moauro and Amy (Kurt) Small; great-grandchildren, Marlee, Colton and Mila Herbert, Evan and Nora May, Kenleigh and Riley Herbert, MJ, Harmony and Cohen Perkins, Laken and Myles Moauro and baby Small.
Friends and family may gather at North Industry Christian Church (425 45th St. SW, Canton, OH 44706) on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Ken’s funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Stephen Kimbrel and Pastor Ed Barnes officiating. A private interment will take place at Indian Run Cemetery at a later time.
