Kenneth L Hixon, Sr, of Galveston Island, Tx, passed away on July 30, 2025 at the age of 92.
He was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 7, 1932, the son of Charles R Hixon and Lila Pearl Casey. He graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Indiana University. He had five children with his first wife, Patty Hoffmann.
In 1972 he married Mona Barlow. Ken and Mona moved to Dallas, TX where they later founded Corporate Quarters, a corporate relocation and temporary housing firm. Ken was co-founder of The National Interim Housing Network, the first national organization of temporary/interim housing providers.
In 1996 they sold their company and retired to a home in Pirates Beach in Galveston. Ken was active in the community and helped start, in 1999, along with Jerry Mohn and several others, the West Galveston Island Property Owners Association.
Ken and Mona enjoyed traveling the United States visiting friends and family in their motorhome. They were, also, actively involved in the Krewe of Gambrinus for 20 years.
Ken collected friendships, enjoyed life and was always grateful for his good fortune.
Ken is survived by his wife Mona and his four sons: Ken, Jr, Jeff, John and Steve. His beloved only daughter Cathy passed away in June from glioblastoma.
Ken was a very loving and generous grandfather. He was known as "Poppy" to their nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Ken was entombed at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston. A private celebration of his long life will be held at a later date.
