Kenneth Wayne Kunkle, 76, of Janesville, Wisconsin, passed away on January 22, 2025, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
He was born February 18, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of R. Eugene Kunkle and Doris (Brummet) Kunkle. In 1974, he married Deborah Hagan, and they divorced in 2022.
Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Lori (Brian) Thon of Janesville and Tami (Don) Heinz of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, and three granddaughters, Autumn and Brooke Heinz, and Kelsee Thon. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister, James (Janice) Kunkle of Rochester, Illinois; G. Lynn (Penny) Kunkle of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and Kay (Pete) Kroutil of Casa Grande, Arizona. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
After graduating from Iowa State University, Ken returned to Lacon, Illinois, to work on the family farm raising purebred Yorkshire hogs. He then worked in banking and also was self-employed in marketing for farmers in the Janesville area. Besides working, Ken was active in his church where he was a sponsor in RCIA, a frequent lector at Mass, and a 2nd grade religious education instructor. He enjoyed golfing, travelling, and reading. He especially enjoyed annual trips throughout the United States with his granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 19, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Mary Church in Janesville, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Graveside services will follow the Mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Janesville, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Alzheimer's Association, or to Nativity of Mary Church in Janesville.
