Mr. Wilson was my beloved band teacher at Vashon elementary when l began my long learning in band learning to play trumpet. He surprised me one Monday morning when the other band players in Alice Nordlings 6th grade class were being escorted to the music room, I was surprised when my trumpet was taken away and was given a new mouthpiece to an instrument l had no idea what it was. That was my first day of learning to play Tuba. He was as a great, passionate and caring teacher and director. I was a student of his from 1975 until 1982 when he went to pursue his choral education in Italy and l last saw him in 1982 at a concert in which he was directing a jazz choir he had started at EWU. He will be missed.

Being part of the Bothell High school choirs, under Ken´s direction was very helpful to my development as a musician and leader. The family feel that was created through the retreats and high level rehearsals and music made choir my favorite class. He was a master at teaching improvisation. I really enjoyed being part of the vocal jazz group. Was glad to reconnect briefly many years ago when he was directing blue street voices.

So many great memories with this man at the helm! Choir retreats at Fort Flaggler, Ashland Oregon trip, Jazz Choir competitions, concerts, oh so much more. Thank you for sharing your love of music with so many. May your legacy live on through the many you mentored, taught and influenced.

Thank you to my wonderful McMurray Middle School choir teacher. You made me feel a part of the Vashon community and gave me a new appreciation for musicality. Rest in Peace.

Mr. Wilson was my music teacher on Vashon Island. He was passionate in his teaching. I often wondered where life took him after Vashon. I feel fortunate to have been one of his students.
Very sorry for his family and friends loss.
