Kevin David Corter

Kevin David Corter, 52, of Sparta, New Jersey, passed away on August 16, 2023, due to complications following a short illness.
Kevin was born on January 15, 1971, to Kenneth Carl Corter and Dolores Frey Corter in Pequannock, New Jersey. After Kevin graduated from Kinnelon High School in 1989, he went on to dedicate his career to the same school district, working as the head custodian for Pearl R. Miller Middle School for over 33 years.
In 2002, Kevin met Gretchen at the ophthalmologist's office where she worked. Not because he was her patient but Kevin, the loyal and caring friend everyone knew him to be, was there to drive home Stacey DiMarco following her Lasik procedure. That day, along with Stacey, Kevin would take home Gretchen's phone number and the rest, as they say, is history.
Married in 2008, Kevin and Gretchen enjoyed their time together adventuring and remaining young at heart. They spent their weekends exploring state parks, the beach, perusing flea markets, playing at carnivals, and daydreaming together about returning to St. Lucia, where they honeymooned.
A fan of the outdoors, Kevin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many early mornings – some more successful than others – in the woods with Bob Conrad and by rivers and streams with Rick Fluhr. If you needed to know the weather forecast, Kevin was your guy. In fact, Kevin was your guy for pretty much all things. He would do anything and everything for not just his family and friends, but the teachers he worked with, their students, his neighbors – truly anyone that needed a helping hand. Kevin was always there to help, make your life easier and share many opinions along the way.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth Carl Corter and Dolores Frey Corter, and his brother, Mark Corter. He is survived by his wife, Gretchen Corter (Conley), brother Michael Corter (Mary), father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Brenda Conley, sister-in-law Morgan Hansen (Peter), sister-in-law Amanda Carson (Michael), four nieces: Jaime Corter, Abigail Hansen, Elliott Hansen and Frankie Carson, and his three nephews: Jacob Corter, Owen Hansen and Cooper Carson.
Services will be held at Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home in Butler, New Jersey on Tuesday, August 22 from 4 PM to 8 PM. Please join us in honoring Kevin's life.
