Kevin Gerard Davitt

Kevin Gerard Davitt, 71, died Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan after a long fight with lung disease.
Kevin was the beloved husband of Marisa Davitt (nee: Lopez), and the loving father of Danielle Marisa Parrilla of Tuxedo Park, NY, Samuel Cormac Davitt of Bloomsbury, NJ, and Owen James Davitt of Providence, RI. He was predeceased by his father James Davitt, his mother, Joan Davitt (nee: Higgins) and his stepmother, Mary Davitt.
Born and raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, Kevin had lived in Glen Rock for the last 29 years, but he continued to maintain strong ties with his family and friends in Brooklyn.
After graduating from Nazareth High School, Brooklyn in 1972, he attended Hunter College and NYU. After receiving his master's degree in communications from NYU, Kevin worked as a journalist and public relations specialist. As a journalist, his work was published several times, notably in the New York Times and the Daily News, covering various topics such as politics, health, lifestyle, and culture. He also served as press secretary to former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He then served as the Director of Communications for the Long Island Railroad and the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters.
Kevin was an active member of St. Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock where he was a member of the Men's Cornerstone team. He also served on the Glen Rock Board of Education for one term. As a talented musician, Kevin continued to play in bands with his friends from Brooklyn. He carried a guitar pick with him wherever he went. He also loved spending time at the beach, both in Brooklyn and at the Jersey shore.
A mass in memory of Kevin will be celebrated at 10am on June 19,2025 at St. Catharine R.C. Church, 905 Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ 07452. Cremation will be private.
To honor Kevin's love for the outdoors, in lieu of flowers, friends may plant a tree in his memory.
