Kiersten Patricia Swensen, age 61, of Salisbury, Maryland, passed away on April 19, 2025. She was born in Sea Bright, New Jersey, and was the fifth of six children born to the late Margaret Lovgren and Hans Swensen. Kiersten sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2014 due to a car accident, after which she resided in a long-term care facility. She passed away following a brief illness and complications related to her injuries. Kiersten spent her childhood in Sea Bright, where she could often be found playing softball and basketball. She found her calling as a devoted in-home nanny, nurturing and shaping the lives of countless children. With her passion for childcare, she was able to form lasting, lifelong bonds with families and treated the children as if they were her own. Kiersten brought the same caring energy to family events, making sure everyone was taken care of by handing out sunscreen and water on a hot day. She was preceded in death by her two siblings, Martin Swensen and Rita Hriczko. Kiersten is survived by her three remaining sisters: Kari VanOrden and Edythe Chartier, both of Salisbury, MD; Kathryn Zygler of the Outer Banks, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street, Delmar, DE. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Please help celebrate Kiersten by wearing her favorite color green to the service. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.shortfh.com.
