Mark Evan Swensen, a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, returned to his eternal home on May 3, 2025, at the age of 69. While battling chronic illness, his passing was unexpected and has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His larger-than-life presence will be deeply missed.
Born October 25, 1955, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Lynn and Leora (Miller) Swensen, Mark graduated from Granite High School in 1973 and attended Ricks College. He possessed a remarkable creative spirit, skillfully applying his talents to carpentry, construction, remodeling, and sales. He was a gifted artist as well as a musician, with a beautiful voice and ability to play the piano and the saxophone. Throughout his life, Mark was defined by his hard work and dedication, always immersed in a new project or creating a new painting. He loved watching basketball, football, golf, and was a renowned movie connoisseur, always armed with a ready supply of dad jokes and witty movie one-liners. He loved to play Scrabble with his wife, taking particular enjoyment in his many victories. Beneath a sometimes-gruff exterior, Mark possessed a kind and generous heart, deeply caring for his family and friends. He learned to prioritize relationships above all else, striving to maintain close connections and making those around him feel accepted. He was known for his generous "giant bear hugs." His commitment to his faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was unwavering.
Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry, and his previous wife, Julie Ann (Van Horn) Swensen, Mark is survived by his loving wife, Marcia (Theisen) Swensen; his siblings, Tracy Wells, Barbara Swensen, John Swensen, Alan Swensen, and Jim Swensen; his children, Byron Engelbrecht, James Swensen, Martha Lovins, Aubrie Scoffield, Rebecca Swensen, Sterling Swensen, Sarah Swensen, and Sean Swensen; his step-children, Shea Eyzaguirre, Seth Reynolds, Collin Reynolds, and Elise Andersen; and his cherished twenty-six grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held for Mark on May 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a service of remembrance at noon at the LDS chapel located at 275 E 10600 S in Sandy, Utah. Internment will follow at Elysian Burial Gardens.
Though deeply saddened by Mark's passing, we find comfort in the belief that he has been reunited with loved ones, that his pain has ceased, and that family relationships are eternal.
