Kip J. Neblett, 85, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Columbia, Missouri. Born on November 15, 1939, in St. Louis, Kip was the son of the late Sherman and Gertrude (Schumacher) Neblett.
A 1957 graduate of Jefferson City High School, Kip went on to serve his country with honor-first in the Missouri National Guard from November 1956 to April of 1959, Army Reserve from April 1959 until August 1960, and finally the United States Army from August 1960 until October 1963.
In 1968, Kip returned to Jefferson City High School, this time as a beloved educator. Over the course of his career, he taught Astronomy, Geology, and Cantorium until his retirement in 1995. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, where his passion for the arts and sciences inspired generations of students.
Kip's love for music and theater enriched his community for decades. A dedicated member of the Central United Church of Christ choir for 40 years, he also performed in 52 musicals with The Little Theater and other local productions. Known for his craftsmanship and creativity, Kip not only built sets for many of these shows and helped construct a working carousel-complete with hand-carved wooden horses-for one memorable performance.
An avid woodcarver and fisherman, Kip found peace and joy in his hobbies, sharing his creations and his stories with all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving nephews, Larry Beck (Lily), Ronald Beck, Donald Beck (Debbie), and David Beck (Mary Juno); great-nieces and nephews Sabrina Beck, Alexa Beck, Cory Beck (Katie), Megan Beck, and Doug Beck (Katy); and great-great-nieces and nephews Warren, Weston, and Madelyn Beck. Kip was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alexa Beck.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Capital City Productions-both causes close to Kip's heart.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kip's life on Thursday, June 5, with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St.; Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com

I'm proud to have known and sung with Kip for many years in both the Missourians (Suzie Nichols director) and Monticello (David Gillespie, Rubin Phelps, Carl Beach and Cindy McClain directors). A fine fellow, he led a busy, interesting and meaningful life. He is missed, I miss him, and as an old choral director once said, God needed another bass. RIP my friend.
