Kirk Bates, lifelong Bryan County resident, was born Sunday, May 27, 1973 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida to Ronnie Dale Bates and Martha Sue (Southerland) Bates. He passed from this life on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 in Plano, Texas at the age of 49.
Kirk was raised in Bryan County and is a graduate of Rock Creek High School in 1992. Kirk married Tammy Neely on November 13, 2009 in Sherman, Texas. He worked as a cannabis grower and construction worker remodeling homes. Kirk enjoyed playing his guitar, fishing and hunting, and loved his dogs: Duke, Butch, and Pockets.
Kirk is preceded in death by his dad Ronnie Dale Bates; sister Beti Bates Ragsdale; sister-in-law Tione Ivey Bates; maternal grandfather C.L. Southerland; paternal grandparents C.R. and Thelma Bates; and his beloved dog Duchess.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Tammy, of the home; a son, Kolin Sanders of Broken Arrow, OK; his mother, Sue Bates of Durant; brother, Amos Bates and fiancé Crystal Freeman of Durant; mother-in-law, Judy Neely of Durant; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Southerland of Durant; sister Tanya Odle of Denison; three nieces, Chynna Groves and daughter Aria of Sherman, Ziane Ivey and her children Klaus and Ezra of Kingston, and Khrystina Thannisch and her daughter Khloe and son Caden Rodriguez of Durant; four nephews, Ty Ragsdale of Missouri, Seth Ivey of Durant, Zack Bates of Sherman, and Michael Bates of Durant; and numerous cousins, friends, uncles and aunts.
Graveside memorial services are pending at this time.
