Kirk Bloom, the man who could make anyone laugh and the ultimate car enthusiast, took his final joyride with Med Flight’s “Maverick and Goose” on August 19, 2024, to UW Hospital after a brief but fierce battle with cancer surrounded by loving wife, family and friends. Born on November 12, 1964, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Kirk was a beacon of joy and laughter for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A proud graduate of Columbus High School’s Class of '83, Kirk’s journey led him to become a master plumber and welder helping complete Fiserv Arena and ironically, UW Hospital’s new Carbone Cancer Center East. But let’s be honest, he was more famous for his infectious humor and ability to light up any room. Kirk was the guy who turned every gathering into a party, always armed with a joke and a smile that showcased his infamous dimples.

Kirk’s love for cars was legendary. His prized possession, a 1951 Bel Air, was his dream car. Others in his collection were stars of countless car shows. He didn’t just participate; he dominated, winning trophies like Best of Show and Best of Class with his beloved stock truck. His garages were a testament to his passion, filled with gleaming vehicles that reflected his dedication and enthusiasm.

When he wasn’t under the hood of a car, Kirk was out in the wild, hunting with his buddies in Mineral Point, enjoying camping trips, or utilizing his creative and artistic talent drawing or making wood burnings. Nature was his playground, and he made the most of it, creating unforgettable memories with friends and family.

Kirk leaves behind his loving wife, Debra, with whom he shared 17 years of laughter and love. His legacy lives on through his stepchildren, Sadie (Luke) Huffman and Derek (Brittney Killam) Navis, and his three adored grandchildren: Lucille, Charlotte, and Harrison Huffman. He is also survived by his parents, Gilbert and Linda Bloom; his four sisters, Glenda (Jerry) Crook, Brenda Mitchell, Amy Bloom, and Kim (Pete) Steiner; his loyal dog, Hudson; his mother-in-law, Ruth Pluim; two brothers-in-law, Mike (Sue) Pluim and Jeff (Rhonda) Pluim; a sister-in-law, Sue (Mike) VandeSlunt; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Kirk was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ken Pluim, but his spirit and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Kirk and Deb were able to complete their “some day” on August 17, 2024 by officially tying the knot. It was a day Kirk and Deb cherished and his “best day ever”. In his words, “when you have a good day, you never want it to end”.

Kirk Bloom's remarkable spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless love will be forever cherished and missed by all whose lives he touched. His legacy of joy, adventure, and family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. In his final words, “I had a great life”.
