Kurt was a beloved friend, father, husband, partner, and grandfather.
He completed his life's journey at Covenant Living of Northbrook, the community he called home for the past 21 years. Kurt arrived there in 2004 with his late wife Frida, caring for her with love and devotion until her passing in 2011. In time, he found a new partner in Meridel Newman, who cared for him in his later years with the same tenderness he once gave.
Born in Germany in 1928, Kurt emigrated to the United States in 1956 with Frida, and together they raised their three children - Michael, Paul, and Susan - in Northbrook. He is survived by his son Michael (friend Ann), daughter Susan (husband Chris), son Paul (wife Gina), granddaughters Vicky and Chrissy, brother Juergen and his close friend Meridel Newman.
Kurt's love of music stayed with him throughout his life. He especially loved German music, and he played the accordion with joy. He and Frida shared many happy hours ballroom dancing. In later years, he traveled, laughed, and enjoyed good food and company with Meridel - and found a way to sneak wine into the dining room before it was officially allowed.
Kurt had a strength and resilience that carried him through a changing world. Even in his later years, he stayed curious - learning new technology, mastering email, ordering from Amazon, and making personalized greeting cards for his family.
We are especially grateful to him for the example he set: to stay curious, to keep music in your heart, the importance of perseverance, and to keep finding joy in the world around you.
Memorial Service will be held May 13, 2025 at 2 pm at Covenant Living of Northbrook - North/South Village Rooms - Town Center, 2625 Techny Rd., Northbrook. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Living Benevolent Care Fund, 2625 Techny Road, Northbrook, IL 60062.
