Kurt Houska, 66, of Granger, Iowa and formerly of the Des Moines area and Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the evening of October 24, 2024 at the Perry Lutheran Home surrounded by his loving family.
Services for Kurt will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 beginning at 1:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Kurt Jay Houska was born June 11, 1958 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the youngest of two children born to Donald and Eunice (Kent) Houska. Kurt grew up in Marshalltown and later graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1976. He followed up his education in Marshalltown and attended vocational school in Des Moines.
Kurt was married to Jolene Bates and from this union came their two children, Laurie and Ryan. They moved to Des Moines and Kurt worked in the HVAC industry. He and Jolene Later divorced and he was then united in marriage to Amy (Ireland). He continued to call areas around the Des Moines area his home and started up his own business as a hobby. In his free time, he loved going camping, woodworking, decorating the house at Christmas with many light up decorations in the yard and doing home projects. During Christmas, he always enjoyed and had fond memories of candy making with his family and later with his grandkids. He enjoyed Christmas Eve dinners as a family. Together they cooked the traditional family recipes with his mother taking over the holiday cooking after his grandmother's passing and eventually his sister taking the role of the cook for the family Christmas Eve dinner. He made it a every year tradition to attend multiple days of the Iowa State Fair and attend concerts as he could. In his younger years, he enjoyed operating his CB radio and building model cars and planes. He always was known to have a soft spot and loved his dogs that he had over the years.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Laurie Houska and Ryan (Erin) Houska; his grandchildren, Madison, Makenna, Jaden, Grayson, Brandon, Clint, Delaney and Eden. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Weatherly and his niece Carrie and nephew Rob alongside numerous cousins. He is also survived by his fur-babies, Charlie and Delilah.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Amy; parents, Donald and Eunice Houska; brother-in-law, Denny Weatherly and his fur babies, Sampson and Daisy.
