AHOSKIE, NC - Kyle Douglas Harrell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at ECU Health Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, North Carolina, at the age of 65, after a decline in health over the last few years. Born on January 16, 1960, in
Ahoskie, North Carolina, Kyle was the cherished son of the late Mary Agnes Millner Harrell and Orrin Felton Harrell.
Kyle's early years were shaped by the sweet aromas and bustling activity of the family bakery, Harrell's Pastry Shoppe, on Main Street in Ahoskie. Under the loving guidance of his parents, he learned the art of baking cakes, pies, muffins, cookies, and other delightful treats. In his twenties, he took the helm of the bakery, continuing the cherished family tradition until its doors closed.
After the bakery's closure, Kyle embarked on a new journey as a carpenter. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship, he built homes with an unwavering commitment to perfection. Every nail, every beam, and every detail was a reflection of his dedication and pride in his work.
In his leisure time, Kyle enjoyed the great outdoors, spending his earlier years hunting and fishing as long as his health allowed. As time went on, his passion shifted to gardening, where he found immense satisfaction in nurturing his raised garden beds. His tomatoes were legendary, and he eagerly awaited the moment he could transform them into homemade salsa.
Even after the bakery days were behind him, Kyle's love for cooking and baking endured. He delighted in making coconut pies and cinnamon rolls, always ensuring his daughter had her special batch without raisins. His culinary creations were expressions of love, shared with family and friends.
Kyle's heart was also filled with love for his faithful canine companions, Venus the Australian Shepherd and Zoey the Poodle, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary Agnes Millner Harrell and Orrin Felton Harrell. Kyle leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife of 32 years, Vicki Leigh Johnson Harrell; his son, Jason Harrell and wife Paula of
Ahoskie, North Carolina; his daughter, Katelyn Harrell Dotson and husband Jonathan of Blackstone, Virginia; granddaughters, Kendall Harrell and the soon-to-arrive Rhiannon Dotson; his brother, Chester Harrell and wife Angela; nephews Brian Harrell and Douglas Harrell; and many extended family members and friends.
