GATESVILLE, NC - Meggie Donald Brann, 78, passed away on August 05, 2025 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC. Meggie was born on October 29, 1946 in Snow Hill, NC to parents Megie Brann and Nina Mae Henderson Brann.
Mr. Brann spent most of his life in Virginia before moving to North Carolina to be closer to his sons and granddaughter. A dedicated and hardworking individual, Meggie spent his early years serving his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army before retiring. Following his military service, he spent time working as a farm equipment mechanic in Tappahannock, then he transitioned to a new role as a bus driver in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Meggie later pursued a career with the State Highway Department, where he worked diligently until an unfortunate accident involving a dump truck resulted in injury.
In his leisure time, Meggie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep affinity for the outdoors, particularly drawn to the serene beaches of Nags Head, North Carolina, where he enjoyed four-wheel driving and surf fishing. A man of meticulous standards, he took great pride in maintaining his yard, ensuring it remained in pristine condition and a testament to his care and attention.
Meggie will be remembered fondly for his strong work ethic, his love of nature, and the beauty he brought to the world through both his professional contributions and personal passions.
Along with his parents, Meggie was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Brann, and Lindsey West.
Meggie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Brann; sons, Matt Brann, and Meggie Donald Brann, Jr., granddaughter, Jadelynn Abigail Brann, brother, James West, and sister-in-law, Barbara Bagby. Also surviving are extended family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Meggie will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 3:00 pm with military honors at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, North Carolina.
