We are honored to publish the obituary of Mrs. Hardee for local family and friends, Hardwick Funeral Home in Loris is handling the funeral services.
Mrs. Laphena “Lou” Housand Hardee, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at her home in Loris, SC. Born on February 17, 1936, in Loris, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Cleveland Housand and the late Amanda Ruth Cox Housand. Mrs. Hardee worked with Daisy Elementary and Mt. Vernon Store but will be most remembered as a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, and sister. Mrs. Hardee was a longtime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her loving sons, Danny J. Hardee (Roscia), C. Gene Hardee (Angela); daughter, Kathy McDonald (Richard); three grandchildren, Christopher Daniel Hardee, Shannon Fraser (Ryan), and Michelle Weatherford (Britt); two great-grandchildren, Anna Claire Weatherford, and Kyleigh Atkinson (David); great-great-grandchild, Millie Wilds Atkinson; brother, Elwood Housand; and sister, Ruthann Cook (Peter).
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardee was predeceased by her husband, John Jefferson Hardee, Sr; son, John Jefferson Hardee, Jr; as well as five brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Hord and Rev. Mack Hutson officiating. Committal services will follow at Hardee cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Friday, prior to services, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. The family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, 4301 Red Bluff Rd., Loris, SC 29569.
