Larry was born on Election Day, 1944, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He was the youngest child of Ernest N.J. Anderson and Alice Olive (Olsen) Anderson.
He was baptized by the Rev. H.O. Mosby at Frost Lutheran Church and confirmed by the Rev. Myrwood Bagne at United Lutheran Church of Frost. He married Sonja Stangebye June 19, 1971 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Hobart, Indiana.
He attended school in Frost, graduating with the class of 1962. After graduating from Mankato State, Larry worked in journalism and the financial services industry, retiring from AgStar (Compeer) Financial Services in 2012. He was active in many rural economic development and healthcare organizations including 40 years as a board member at United Hospital District in Blue Earth and was a frequent emcee at local and regional events.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja, one son, Jacob Anderson of Frost; one daughter, Ingrid (Dean) Rueter of Casper, Wyoming and six grandchildren: Erik, Brody, Benjamin and Hadleigh Anderson and Torin and Bianca Rueter; brothers-in-law Dr. Ronald (Susan) Stangebye and Vernon Stangebye and sisters-in-law Cynthia Razo and Lynaya Stangebye and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Ernest Anderson, brother, James and wife Dr. Betty Anderson, sister Marilynn Martinson and husband Robert Martinson; father and mother-in-law, Norman and Marjorie Stangebye, brother-in-law Gilbert Razo, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Larry passed away Sunday October 13, 2024 at UHD. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday October 21 at United Lutheran Church in Frost with Rev. Aaron Evenson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM Sunday October 20 at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth and will continue one hour before the service at the church.
Donations in Larry’s name can be made to the Hormel Cancer Research Institute in Austin, MN or to United Lutheran Church in Frost.
