Larry Jacobson of South Jordan, Utah, passed peacefully on January 26, 2024 at the age of 91. Larry was born in Lapoint, Utah, on March 13, 1932 to David Wells and Leola Dickson Jacobson. The family moved to northern California when Larry was a young boy, and Larry grew up near Orland, California, attending Orland High School.
Larry served in the Air Force and was stationed in Korea. He enjoyed photography and auto mechanics.
Larry attended Brigham Young University where he met his wife Ruth Whittle. He married Ruth in the Salt Lake Temple on November 30, 1956. The couple moved to South Jordan and Larry studied Engineering at the University of Utah. Larry and Ruth's first child was Bryan Lee born in 1959, and their second child was another son, Kevin Scott born in 1961.
Larry's engineering career started at Kennecott Copper Corporation. He then moved on to work at the Utah Department of Transportation, Highway Design Division for decades.
Larry and his family loved traveling around the country, some of the trips in a motor home Larry built from a delivery truck. Larry and Ruth supported their boys in the 4-H horsemanship program, scouting, and swimming. Larry enjoyed farming, mostly raising alfalfa; wheat, and beef cattle during some years.
Larry was always generous, using his welding and mechanic skills to repair neighbors' cars and farm equipment. After Larry retired from the Utah Department of Transportation, he served as the President of the South Jordan Canal Company for many years.
Larry's wife Ruth passed. He is survived by brothers Mack and Gary, sister Annette, and his sons Bryan (Katrina/Troutdale, Oregon) and Kevin (Dian/Twin Falls, Idaho), nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday February 2nd at the Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel at 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah, 84095. Viewing from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. Funeral 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Flowers can be sent to the same address. Burial to follow at the West Jordan Cemetery.
