Mr. James "Larry" McGouirk, age 79 of Thomaston, passed in peace Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Brightmoor Hospice.
James Larry "Kojak" McGouirk was born on March 17, 1943, to the late Dewey and Evelyn McGouirk of Thomaston, GA. Larry retired from Thomaston Mills bleachery division after many years of dedicated service to the company. Larry was passionate about and looked forward to volunteering at his church's foodbank, passing out food boxes to those in need. A member of Pine Mountain Holiness, Larry shared a personal lifelong friendship with Paster Jimmy Grier. His hobbies were keeping an immaculate yard, cutting grass and eating a poolroom hamburger.
Larry was married to Tanya Blount for twenty-three years and have two beloved sons together, James "Jim" Larry (Michelle) McGouirk Jr. and Dewey Edward (Julie) McGouirk. He was a loving grandfather to Eric (Krysty) McGouirk of Leesburg, Ryan (Jenny) McGouirk of Rome, Chase McGouirk and Seth (Lindsey Murphy) McGouirk both of Thomaston. Great-grandchildren include, Sydney and Olivia McGouirk, Zayden McGouirk, Jenna and Grant Taylor. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Dewey "Bud" (Barbarah) McGouirk, Richard (Peggy Jo) McGouirk, Nell (Doug) Baughcum. Surviving siblings include Tommy (Kay) McGouirk, Millie (John) Savage, and Toni (Billy) Jones. Larry will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org, or to the Gideons at gideons.org.
