Larry B. Montgomery, age 73, of Northport, Alabama, passed away December 7, 2025, at his residence. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Terrell Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Montgomery and Vista Watson Montgomery; and one brother, James Harry Montgomery.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shelia Kuykendall Montgomery; two children, Erica Zutell (Mike), and Brian Montgomery; three grandchildren, Ivy Montgomery, Rose Zutell, and Reese Zutell; one brother, Greg Montgomery; two nephews, Clay Montgomery (Nikki), and Cole Montgomery; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Dana Gurganus.
Larry was a 1971 graduate of Northside High School, attended Brewer State Community College, and the University of Alabama. He was a 1986 graduate of the FBI Academy. He was employed by the University of Alabama Department of Public Safety for 47 years. Larry never met a stranger. He took great joy in talking with old friends, as well as new ones he met along the way. He had a true heart for helping others in their time of need. His greatest times on earth were spent with family and friends. His love for his family was unwavering.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Anders, Mike Anders, Mark Bozeman, Mark Gurganus, Ken Jones, Clay Montgomery, Cole Montgomery, and Mike Zutell.
Honorary pallbearers are University of Alabama Dept. of Public Safety, University of Alabama President's Office Special Detail Services, all other law enforcement of Tuscaloosa County, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Witt, Dr. and Mrs. Stuart Bell, present and former University of Alabama Systems Board of Trustees, the "Breakfast Crew", friends and family of the Phillips Chapel community, Dr. Anand Pandey, and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Hospice of West Alabama.
