Dr. Larry Wilton Pigott resident of Tallahassee FL passed away June 30, 2024 in his home in Tallahassee Florida. Larry was born August 1st 1939 Bogalusa La. Graduate of Bogalusa High School Class of 57, LSU alumni, and held master's degrees from the University Of Alabama in Huntsville, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Luther Rice in Atlanta.
Larry spent his career in aerospace. 53 years at Nasa including assignments at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, MIchoud Assembly Center in New Orleans, and Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. His projects ranged from the first stage booster for the Saturn V, the moon buggy, the external tank for the space shuttle, the space shuttle engines, and finally the various test stands through the US for Nasa. He is a recipient of the Saturn V roll of honor and various other Nasa awards.
He was an avid pilot and regularly flew his Aero Commander 100 throughout the southeast US. He enjoyed fishing, his LSU tigers, and hiking the Appalachian Trail.
He was also active in his prison ministry at the Gulfport Correction Facility and B.B. Rayburn Correctional Facility.
He is survived by his wife Lorreta Jean Sullivan Pigott, son Jeff Pigott, grandsons Josh and Daniel Pigott, great granddaughter Gracie, a sister Patricia Pigott Ezell, nephew Ty Ezell (Amy) and numerous other nieces and nephews..
He is preceded in death by his parents Wilton Wallace Pigott and Charlsie Mae Pigott Elder. A brother in law Charles Sullivan II and sister in law Betty Sullivan Remel.
A celebration of life will be held at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home on Friday September 27 from 2pm to 4pm then burial at Ponemah Cemetery.
