Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home - UniontownLarry Glen Swindell, 84, of Uniontown, OH, passed away peacefully at home on October 3rd following a short illness.
Larry was born December 29, 1940, in Huntsville, Alabama. He moved to Akron, OH with his family as a young boy. He graduated from South High School in 1959. Larry married the love of his life and best friend Doretta Carr on June 30, 1962, in Akron. They were married for 63 wonderful, never boring, years.
Larry began working at Goodyear right out of high school. He spent 42 years there, mostly in the Chemical Division as a senior lab technician. He retired in 2000.
Larry was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved to be in the woods! He was also a die-hard Alabama football fan (Roll Tide!), and a long-suffering Cleveland sports fan. He loved to meet new people and talk. If there was laughter in the room, he was likely the cause of it. Larry also loved to take Doretta to the park and eat lunch.
Larry’s greatest passion and source of pride was his family. In addition to wife Doretta, he is survived by his sons Jeff (daughter in-law Sharon) and Mark (daughter in-law Stacey); his grandchildren Zach (Ashley), Lauren (Dom), Meredith (Dirk), Amanda (Tyler), and Nicholas; great-grandchildren Cameron, Owen, Aria, and Adalynn; brother Terry (Alice) and sister Samantha (Steve); sister in law Darlene; nephews Craig and Michael and niece Najoi; great-nephews Jeffrey and Riley. There are also countless friends that loved Larry and will miss him dearly.
Larry was a member of the Arlington Church of the Nazarene. A memorial service will be held at the church (1057 Triplett Blvd., Akron) on October 18th at 11:00 a.m. There will be a time for visitation one hour prior. Pastor Darrell Frazier will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations directly to Mark or Jeff. These funds will be given to the Team Tallmadge Students Visionaries of the Year Campaign supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the name of Larry Swindell.
