Laura Ruth Combs

Laura Ruth Combs, 61, of Columbia wife of David A. Combs, passed away Tuesday March 25, 2025, at home unexpectedly. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth (Karlson) Posuniak.
Born on April 6, 1963, in Middletown, CT, Laura lived with her parents in Marlborough until she married and settled in Columbia. Laura graduated from RHAM high school in 1982. She was in the Army from 1985-1987, stationed in Panama, where she was awarded a certificate of achievement for exemplary performance. Laura attended Manchester Community College, Three Rivers Community college and Eastern State University where she received her BA degree. She wrote an autobiography about her traumatic experiences titled "Life after traumatic experience, beating the odds", which she was very hopeful would help others.
Her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior was important to her. Laura was a member of the Columbia Congregational Church. She enjoyed volunteering her time at her church, at the schools her son attended, and at the VA. She enjoyed spending her time crafting and spending time helping people in need. She enjoyed a career in social work. Laura especially enjoyed working with individuals with traumatic brain injury.
Besides her husband David, she leaves her sons Lee and Keith Combs; her brothers Ted Posuniak and Dan and Ann Posuniak as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 5th at 10am at the Columbia Congregational Church, 325 CT – 87, Columbia CT 06327. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
