Laura Francisca Muniz Salas was born in Mante, Taumalipas Mexico on September 25,1949. She passed unexpectedly with her sister Maria De Los Angeles Soto in Mexico on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the age of 74 as she was returning home to San Antonio, TX after visiting family.
Laura is survived by her 2 children, Albert Sandoval (Anna) and Marlene Lyon (Chris); 6 grandchildren, Zachary Sandoval, Brandon Sandoval, Brianna Lopez (Cesar), Dylan Sandoval, Christopher Lyon Jr., Daiden Lyon; 1 great grandchild Alianna Valentina Lopez; 2 step grandchildren, Krisha and Madeline Ramos; 2 siblings Sergio Muniz Mares (Juanita) and Marco Antonio Muniz Mares (Carmen); nieces, Dinorah Muniz, Ileana Muniz, Melissa Muniz Novak; nephews, Sergio Muniz, Sinohe Muniz, Marco Antonio Muniz Jr, Anthony Soto along with many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aurelio Muniz Resendes and Maria De Los Angeles Mares Dominguez; sisters Rosalba Muniz Mares and Maria De Los Angeles Soto.
Laura was the oldest of 5 and grew up in Monterrey, NL Mexico with her family and friends calling her Guita. In her mid 20s, she moved to San Antonio, TX and married her 1st husband Ramiro Sandoval and started a family. On September 26, 1976 she gave birth to her first child Albert Sandoval. Then 3 years later, she gave birth to her second child Marlene Sandoval on October 31, 1979. Laura would often visit her family in Monterrey as she missed them dearly while living many miles away. She worked at La Mansion Del Rio Hotel for all of her career until she retired. Once retired she didn't want to completely stop working so she worked part-time as a home health care provider. She enjoyed spending time and taking care of the elderly.
Growing up Laura helped take care of her siblings especially the youngest Maria, who Laura ended up giving her the nickname Angie. Laura and Angie were 13 years apart but despite their age difference they had an inseparable bond. Angie would often come to San Antonio to stay with Laura for a few months at a time. When their mom passed away in 1994, Angie eventually ended up coming back to San Antonio to live with Laura once again. The times they did not live together, they made sure to live close to each other. They spent alot of their time together by going to church, running errands, shopping or just eating out. They would also take trips together to visit family in Mexico. They spent their last days together visiting the city they grew up in.
Laura cared deeply for her family and friends. She simply loved spending her free time with them and making memories every chance she could get. She devoted a lot of her time preaching the word of God as she was a dedicated Christian. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was always available when needed especially for her children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed having family dinners as much as she could. Her favorite food was Mexican and she loved to drink her café with pan de dulce. She had a soft spot for animals. When she would go out to eat, she would always make sure to take her dogs a doggie bag. She would feed a couple of stray cats along with her cats and those stray cats ended up sticking around and loving her. She had a green thumb and loved buying plants and trees of different kinds. Her contagious smile and laugh along with her kind loving heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held for both Laura and her sister Maria on October 4, 2024 at 6:30pm with visitation from 5pm-8pm.
