Laurel F. Major, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024 after complications from a stroke the previous October.
Laurel was born in Wilmington in 1944 to the late Edward and Myrtle Erdman. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1962 and remained active with their alumni band for many years. Laurel loved music (Chuck Berry was a favorite) and dancing and even appeared on American Bandstand as a teenager. Laurel worked for DuPont for 35 years and loved her time there. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor and kindness to all. Laurel was ready to strike up a conversation with anyone, and always seemed to run into people she knew-no matter where she was!
Her greatest joys in her life were her family, including her many dogs she had during her lifetime, and the beach. Bethany Beach was her spot for 50 years, and one of her retirement locations. Fort Myers, FL was the other retirement location, and she spent 10 glorious years there with her husband Richard L. Major before he passed away in 2012.
She is survived by her son Daniel E. Major and his wife Carla, and two grandsons Gibson E. (9) and Leif R (7).
Friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, October 1 from 5-7 pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 with a memorial service at 7 pm. Interment at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery will take place privately.
