QUEEN MATRIARCH
With hearts heavy yet grateful for her life, we share the unexpected passing of Ms. Laurie A. Stevens Hunter on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Laurie graced the world with her presence on August 3, 1958, in Waterbury, CT a daughter to the late Marion and Sally-Mae (Jones) Stevens. Laurie was a bright light from the start.
She was educated in Waterbury's public schools and proudly received her high school diploma from Croft School in Waterbury, CT. On September 8, 1979, Laurie and Gregory W. Hunter joined their lives in marriage. Their love brought forth four adored sons, and, over the years, eight cherished grandchildren, all of whom she held close to her heart. Affectionately known as "Nauna," she made sure every holiday, milestone, and event was beautifully decorated and filled with love-nothing gave her more joy than celebrating the people she cared for.
Laurie spent many devoted years serving her community. She acted as program director of the W.O.W program, worked for Community Residents Inc. as a caregiver, and also served the City of Waterbury, CT. In all her roles, she offered warmth, guidance, and unwavering support, touching countless lives with her generosity.
Laurie leaves behind a vast and loving family, who will continue to honor her spirit and example. She leaves her husband of over 50 years, Gregory W. Hunter Sr., her beloved sons; Gregory W. Hunter Jr., Shawayne M. Hunter, Cedrick D. Hunter, and Akeem J. Hunter, all of Waterbury, eight grandchildren; Tyquez Hunter, Lashayia Hunter, Gregory W. Hunter III, Stay'Von Addison, Jasmine Palumbo, Jaelyne Palumbo-Hunter, Nalah Hunter, and Cedrick Hunter Jr., sisters; Lynn Stevens, Gail Stevens and Sheila Walker, brothers; Anthony Stevens and Kenneth Stevens, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a myriad of friends. She was predeceased by her brother "Drake" Stevens.
Laurie's unconditional love, warm smile, and generous heart will forever remain in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May we continue to celebrate her extraordinary life by sharing her kindness, compassion, and devotion to family.

I will always remember her kind nature. She was always ready with a smile. I met her while she was working at CRI. She was always putting the needs of the individuals first. She is missed.
