Laverne "Rick" Pearson, 72, of Midwest City, passed peacefully in his home and was welcomed to his Heavenly home on March 19, 2025.
Born in Santa Ana, California to Adolph and Marie Pearson, Rick spent his formative years in Paradise, California, where he graduated from Paradise High School in 1970. His ability to forge deep, lasting friendships began in these early years and would become a defining characteristic throughout his life.
After high school, Rick's adventurous spirit led him to Texas, where he studied at DeVry Institute of Technology before settling in Oklahoma. His professional journey eventually took him back to California, where he worked in information technology and later as a contract maintenance worker for NASA in San Jose.
Rick eventually returned to his beloved Paradise, where he remained until the devastating Camp Fire of 2018 destroyed the town. Despite losing his home and his extensive San Francisco 49ers memorabilia collection-a passion he had cultivated since childhood-Rick prioritized the safety of his elderly neighbors during the evacuation. Following this tragedy, he relocated to Oklahoma at the encouragement of dear friends Billy and Robert.
Throughout his life, Rick remained an unwavering 49ers fan, always hopeful for more Super Bowl victories as he worked to rebuild his lost collection. His easy-going nature, dependability, and simple approach to life endeared him to many. Loyalty was his hallmark-once Rick formed a friendship or developed an interest, his commitment never faltered.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Adolph, brothers Carl and John, sisters Phyllis and Joanna, and his cherished mother Marie. He is survived by his sister Sonia; nieces Annmarie (Jeremy), Sally (Jim), and Jill; brother-in-law Tom; several cousins, grandnieces and nephews, including Logan, whose soccer stories always brought a smile to Rick's face and joy to his life.
Sonia wishes for her brother to be remembered as the kind, gentle, and caring soul he was-someone who touched countless lives and consistently strived to do what was right. She extends heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals who supported Rick throughout his life journey. Now at peace, Rick is surely reuniting with family and friends who passed before him-perhaps even dancing in Heaven, despite his notorious lack of rhythm. He will be forever loved, always and in all ways.
Rick's earthly body will be cremated, and his ashes will remain with Sonia. While no immediate service is planned, a memorial gathering will be arranged for a future date. In lieu of flowers, and despite Rick's green thumb and love for plants, the family requests donations to St. Jude's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
