Pastor Lawrence Edward Henderson, Sr
Sunrise: Aug. 19, 1948 - Sunset: Feb. 7, 2022
Pastor Lawrence Edward Henderson, Sr, 73, of Columbus, Ohio transitioned to Glory on February 7, 2022. Lawrence Henderson was known for his warm and compassionate smile. As a Husband, father, grandfather, and Pastor he was loving, consistent, and caring. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Lawrence was born to parents, Ruben, Jr., and Louise (Moore) Henderson on August 19, 1948. He attended Columbus City Schools and graduated from Dublin High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Central State University in Health and Physical Education in 1971. Shortly after he was joined in holy matrimony to Barbara J. Goodwin. Lawrence Henderson, Sr. was a loving and devoted husband of 50 years. His dream of having a large family was fulfilled and from this union, they had seven children. Five daughters: Renata Byrd, Shanese, Latrina, Jenale, and Carmale Henderson; Two sons: Lawrence (Gepre) Henderson Jr., and Kenston (Terah) Henderson Sr. He encouraged his children to be leaders and have integrity. He also encouraged them to be kind, have faith in God, and cultivate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He emphasized the importance of pursuing their educational goals. His favorite sayings were, "don't take any wooden nickels and don't give any out.", "Don't let people reel you in", lastly, "Guard your heart".
He went on to receive his Master's degree in Education Administration from The Ohio State University in 1986. His entire 30+ year teaching career was with Columbus City Schools: Linmoor Middle School and Linden McKinley High School. He enjoyed training young people as a health/physical education teacher, drivers' education instructor, and vocational instruction teacher. He also inspired young people through coaching track and field, cross country, girls' volleyball, wrestling, softball, and tennis. During lunch and at the school's annual fundraisers, when Lawrence played basketball against the students, he would tell them to "Take it out the Net", a phrase that demonstrated how you can triumph on the court with respect and tenacity. Till this very day, the lessons of inspiration, fairness, and sternness that was shown and spoken have remained with those students.
Lawrence's first encounter with God was at St. Paul AME and later as an adult, he was baptized in Jesus' name and received the Holy Ghost on November 2, 1973, at the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith. He remained an active and faithful minister of CCAF for over 30 years. He was actively involved as a Sunday School teacher, youth advisor, prison ministry team member, young peoples' union president and vice president, Impact Ministry leader, Cell Ministry leader, and Meals for the Needy volunteer. Lawrence loved fellowshipping with some of the brothers of CCAF on their Saturday morning fishing trips. Elder Lawrence Henderson was led by the Lord to start a new phase of ministry as the Pastor of Harvest Time Ministries International Church in July 2005. He remained the senior pastor of HTMIC until his passing.
Pastor Henderson loved singing, teaching, preaching, and genuine worship. He was passionate about building spiritual character within men. His spiritual mantra was "Greater Praise, Greater Worship, and Greater Commitment to the Kingdom of God". Under his leadership, he taught and trained the members to focus on soul winning. His vision was moving under the leading of the Holy Ghost in all aspects of the ministry. Pastor Henderson loved his natural family and church and even adopted the youth as his grandchildren.
Lawrence was preceded in death by parents Ruben, Jr. and Louise Henderson, and sister, Jeanette Henderson. He is also preceded in death by Sisters/brothers-in-law: Alberta Pyfrom, William Goodwin, Robert Goodwin Jr., and Rose Monford.

Pastor Henderson's philosophy of remaining spiritually focused is to spend 6 months minding your own business and 6 months staying out of others' peoples' business.

It's Time to Get off the Merry-Go-Round
Pastor Lawrence Henderson, Sr.
I must learn how to hear! I can go through something when I have a word from God. I can praise Him when I know Him for myself! Anger, bitterness, failure, brokenness, and hurt will cause you to abort your purpose or assignment: so I have to have a word. Sometimes for me to hear, He must remove my comfort zones!
