Lawrence "Larry" Anton Larson, of
Mineral Point, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 20th, 2025, at the age of 71. Larry was born in Waukegan, Illinois, to Chester and Ellen (Carlson) Larson, who raised him to value hard work and a big laugh. The family moved to Dodgeville when he was in sixth grade, and Larry attended Dodgeville High School. It was there he met his lifelong best friend, Den Olsen. They shared many adventures and mishaps, but as Larry used to say, "Neither one of us would ever give up on things, especially each other." Larry went on to study accounting at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville, where he met the love of his life, Gloria Jean Shedivy. Their first date was in the fall of 1975 at the Walker House and from then on they spent nearly 50 years loving each other and building a beautiful life together. Larry and Gloria started their family in Carthage, Missouri, where Larry worked as an accountant for Big Smith and Gloria taught high school math. They worked hard to start a nest egg for their family; in addition to their day-jobs, they managed a small rental property in evenings and occasionally moonlighted as the janitorial service for Larry's office. Larry landed a job with Leggett and Platt in Carthage and spent many years with them, first as the company controller and eventually as a plant manager. Their adventures took them from Missouri to California, and eventually back to Wisconsin. Across these three states they had their four children, who filled each home with more love, joy, and raucous noise. And on display in every home were their antiques, small and large, collected through countless anniversaries, birthdays and holidays. Larry's greatest joy was his family, whether road-tripping with Gloria and the kids in their Volkswagen van, golfing with his sons, or creating his legacy, an outdoor gathering area at his farm, complete with swings and a zip line for his grandkids. Like each of his houses, this is another space where all are welcome to come for a visit, be it short or long, impromptu or planned. He will be remembered for his generosity toward anyone he could help, his unrestrained laugh, his irreverent wit, and his stubborn insistence on doing things his own way. He has touched many lives, is loved deeply by many, and while his absence will feel big in the lives of those who know him, he would encourage all to fill the space with laughter, ambitious projects and a little mischief. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Larson, and his brother-in-law Peter Krebs. He is survived by his sister Judy Krebs, his brother Terry Larson (Ruth), his sister-in-law Charlene Larson, his beloved wife Gloria Larson, his four children Kyle Larson, David Larson (Kristen), Gena Cuba (Peter), and Carrie Larson (Akshai), Kyle's sweet husky, Nova, and ten grandchildren (Ashoka, Nora, Maeve, Esme, Quinn, Vikram, Arjuna, Raunak, Wren, and baby Lawrence) who adored their Grandpa and always argued about whose turn it was to climb on his lap and drive the UTV. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20 from 1:00 - 3:30 pm at the Gorgen Family Funeral Home in Mineral Point, followed at 3:30 pm by a short service of remembrance. Family and friends are invited to a dinner at the Walker House in Mineral Point to share stories and memories in celebrating his life and legacy. The family asks that you visit bit.ly/LarryInvitation for more details and to RSVP for the dinner. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to celebrate Larry by taking a nap, skipping something you were supposed to attend, or making cookies for loved ones. If you insist on doing more, the family asks that memorials be made to: the Carbone Cancer Center, at the UW Hospital in Madison, WI your local hospice or end of life care organization Gloria to help us put a bench on the farm with the inscription: 'The farm is home to all.' ~ Larry Larson
