Lawrence J. Pelant, age 68, of Webster, passed away unexpectedly at home June 22, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Caroline; brother Richard, and godson, Matthew. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Barbara; children, Lisa (Brian) LaMarche, Laura (Cole) Lutgens, and Ryan (Sara); grandchildren, Ava, Mya, Kaiden, Gianna, Philip, Melina, Jarrett, Brooks, Lydia, and Lyla; siblings, Charles, James, Geralyn, William, and Susan; and many other loving family and friends.
Lawrence was born at Northfield Hospital. He grew up on a working farm in Webster helping his family with dairy and beef cattle along with farming the fields. He met the love of his life at Northfield High School. It was at the Northfield Dairy Queen where Barbara worked where he got up the courage to ask her out on a first date. He graduated from Northfield High School. His first job outside the farm was a meat cutter at Dennison Meats. After high school he attended vocational training at South Central for cabinet making which led to his career. This led to the family adage: now he is "the butcher, the baker, and the cabinet maker". Larry and Barb found each other again after high school and eventually wed at The Church of the Annunciation. Following marriage they built a home on the Pelant family century farm where they welcomed three wonderful children. Along with creating anything that Barbara wanted, there wasn't a day that went by where he didn't make her laugh. Through the years they enjoyed many trips to Mackinac Island, road trips out west, and to the North Shore. After retirement Lawrence and Barbara enjoyed spending time at their lake house with family and friends or just simply with each other. Most recently Lawrence spent a majority of his time with his 10 grandchildren, and he loved every minute of it.
Lawrence was known for being an avid historian and sharing his anecdotes on life. He was a man of faith and believed in His Word. He took great care and pride in his several gardens. Gardening is when he felt most content. Along with his wife, Lawrence, was an outstanding host to family and friends for countless celebrations including holidays, impromptu gatherings, and boat cruises on the lake. He enjoyed working hard to entertain his favorite people and had a way of making you feel like you were the only ones that mattered. His younger siblings recall from a young age Lawrence was a deep thinker and would share his wisdom with them. They looked up to him for this. His family will be comforted knowing he will lay to rest at Annunciation where he received many sacraments including baptism, first communion, confirmation, and marriage.
In memory of Lawrence we will be catching fireflies this week for his birthday. This was a tradition he shared for many years with his children and grandchildren. His devotion and love to his wife and his entire family will be his lasting legacy.
